Sustainability

A commitment to sustainability

Nic is a part of the Norwegian company, Orkla, which is a leading supplier of branded consumer-goods in the Nordics, Baltics and parts of Central Europe. Being part of a leading, strong and recognised organisation, we are proudly contributing to Orkla’s Sustainability Agenda.

Main Focus Areas

Our work is centred around three key areas:

Climate and Energy

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one of our key priorities and we are working towards ambitious targets that support Orkla’s broader sustainability strategy.

This includes:

  • 70% reduction in climate impact and waste compared to 2016
  • 65% of energy sourced from renewable sources
  • Significant reductions in emissions from both agricultural and industrial supply chains

Reducing Waste and Supporting Circularity

Efficient use of resources is an important part of our sustainability work.

Our goals include:

  • A 20% reduction in waste per tonne sold
  • Zero waste sent to landfill
  • 100% of organic waste valorised through beneficial reuse

Responsible Sourcing, Food Safety & Quality

Responsible sourcing and product quality are fundamental to our business.

Our commitments include:

  • 100% supplier compliance with our Code of Conduct
  • 100% cage-free eggs in our own production
  • Certification of prioritised high-risk raw materials
  • Compliance with EUDR, PPWR and other relevant regulations, all audited sites maintained at OFSS green level

Taking Action Across the Nic Group

Sustainability is not just about long-term targets. It is also about the practical steps we take every day across our operations.

We are gradually increasing the share of hybrid and electric vehicles across our operations. Several businesses within the Nic Group are already using electric vehicles, and further investments are planned as part of our long-term sustainability strategy.

Solar energy projects are being explored and expanded across several Nic locations. Feasibility studies and future investments are planned in Sweden, Benelux, the UK, and other parts of the business to help increase the use of renewable energy.

Investments in modern production equipment, including new-generation ovens, help improve energy efficiency while maintaining the high product quality our customers expect.

We continuously evaluate emerging technologies that can support emission reductions, including electric production equipment, hydrogen-powered solutions, and renewable fuels such as HVO.

Quality You Can Trust

At Nic we are fully committed to delivering safe, high-quality products you can rely on. We follow strict requirements for how our raw materials are sourced, handled, and transported, ensuring consistency and safety at every step. Our processes are guided by shared Orkla standards, including the Orkla Food Safety Standard, which is based on the British Consortium Global Standard for Food Safety. We also continuously review and improve our ingredients and materials to minimise any potential impact on health and the environment.
